Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1924-2018), eminent statesman, parliamentarian, poet and orator, served the nation as Prime Minister of India. In recognition of his enduring contributions to public life and governance, 25 December is observed annually as Good Governance Day.
The 100th birth anniversary of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee was commemorated on 25 December 2024 through a series of programmes organised across the country. The Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, led the national commemorations from Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, and paid tribute to Shri Vajpayee’s role in nation-building, democratic strengthening, and inclusive development.
The centenary year is being observed through year-long Jan Bhagidari-based programmes nationwide, aimed at highlighting the life, ideals, and contributions of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. These initiatives seek to promote awareness of his vision for good governance, national unity, and social harmony, while inspiring citizens, particularly the younger generation, to carry forward his values and commitment to public service.
