The Government of India, through the Ministries of Culture and Ministry of Home Affairs, formally notified that “Samvidhan Hatya Diwas” would be observed annually on June 25 to mark the imposition of the Emergency in 1975. To commemorate its 50th anniversary, the Government is observing Samvidhan Hatya Diwas from June 25, 2024, to June 25, 2026, through a series of nationwide programmes.
The commemoration is focused on education and public engagement, with significant events conducted in educational institutions, media coverage, and competitive events such as essay writing, debates, and street plays. Awareness marches, faculty participation, and panel discussions on the Preamble and constitutional features are also being organised.
Throughout the year, the Ministry of Culture, in partnership with civil society and academic institutions, will host seminars, lectures, and campaigns to raise awareness, especially among youth, about constitutional rights and democratic values.
