A three-day commemoration programme to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee was organised on 1-3 November by Alhuda Educational Society, based in Telangana, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture. The event highlighted the significant contributions laid down by Dr Mookerjee as an educationist, barrister, freedom fighter and political leader.
The major highlights of the inaugural day were the ‘shanti yatra’ that saw a participation of about 500 students, youth groups, freedom fighters, senior political leaders & community members and, secondly, the impressive addresses on constitutional values & the role of youth in nation-building.
A two-day seminar on promoting constitutional values was held with participation from 150 delegates representing PRIs, NGOs, SHGs, CBOs, trade unions, and educational institutions. Historical and political experts delivered and led keynote addresses, panel discussions, and interactive group discussions on fundamental rights, duties, democratic governance, and the relevance of the Constitution in contemporary society. An exhibition displaying posters and banners related to the work of Dr Mookerjee and the evolution of the Constitution was featured in the event. Freedom fighters, senior political leaders and social activists were honoured during the event. A tree plantation drive was also conducted.
School, college and university-level students enthusiastically participated and reflected on the crucial contributions of Dr Mookerjee and constitutional values through various activities like debates, speeches and drawing competitions. The events were conducted at Tri Koteswara School, Government Residential School, and Sri Nidhi Junior College, Khammam, Telangana.
