Global Dance Overture Celebrates India–Russia Cultural Partnership

The Ministry of Culture, Government of India, organised the Global Dance Overture, a spectacular celebration of the universal language of dance, on 3 March 2026 at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi. The event was presented in collaboration with the Sangeet Natak Akademi and the renowned Russian National Ballet Kostroma as part of Russia’s international cultural and educational initiative aimed at fostering artistic dialogue and strengthening humanitarian and cultural cooperation among nations.

Secretary, Ministry of Culture Shri Vivek Aggarwal inaugurated the programme as the chief guest. The evening was also graced by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to India H.E. Denis Alipov; Chairperson, Sangeet Natak Akademi Dr Sandhya Purecha; Director of the Russian National Ballet "Kostroma," Mrs. Elena Tsarenko; former Minister of Education of India, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, along with several eminent dignitaries from diplomatic, cultural, academic, and public spheres.

The highlight of the evening was the grand choreographic presentation by the Russian National Ballet "Kostroma," which staged its acclaimed Russian National Dance Show. The performance reflected Russia’s centuries-old history, folk traditions, and cultural diversity. The vibrant costumes, elaborate choreography, and remarkable precision gave the audience a vivid experience of various regions of Russia, ranging from the Caucasus and Siberia to the Far North and Central Russia. The ensemble has previously enthralled over seven million spectators across more than fifty countries and five continents.

Adding an Indian dimension to the evening was the specially curated performance ‘Jayati Jaya Mama Bharatam,' presented by Indian dancers under the aegis of Sangeet Natak Akademi. The production brought together 45 dance forms from different regions of India, celebrating the country’s pluralistic cultural identity through a unified choreographic expression.

Global Dance Overture, an international cultural and educational project, aims to introduce audiences from BRICS member states to the history and multicultural heritage of Russia. The evening stood as a remarkable example of cultural diplomacy, reinforcing the longstanding friendship between India and Russia and highlighting the power of artistic collaboration in strengthening people-to-people and cultural ties between the two nations.
