Global Spirituality Mahotsav held in Puducherry with support of Ministry of Culture, to mark 150th birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo

The Global Spirituality Mahotsav - “Towards a Harmonious and Conscious World”, was held from 1 to 3 March 2026 in Auroville, Puducherry, as part of the commemorative celebrations marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo. The Mahotsav was organised by the Auroville Foundation in collaboration with the Government of Puducherry and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The three-day event brought together spiritual leaders, scholars, practitioners, and participants from across India and around the world to reflect upon the life, teachings, and vision of Sri Aurobindo and to explore pathways towards a harmonious and conscious world.

During his visit to Tamil Nadu on 1 March 2026, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, referred to the commencement of the Global Spirituality Mahotsav in Auroville while highlighting the enduring relevance of Sri Aurobindo’s vision. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister remarked, “Sri Aurobindo and the Mother saw Auroville as the universal city of consciousness. I am happy to know that a Global Spiritual Mahotsav is beginning today in Auroville. Such gatherings unite people across regions and religions.”

The 2026 season of the festival drew inspiration from Sri Aurobindo’s profound vision for the future of humanity, which is referred to as “Realising Sri Aurobindo’s Five Dreams for a New Humanity". It highlights Sri Aurobindo’s ideals of national resurgence, Asian unity, world harmony, India’s spiritual leadership, and the evolution of human consciousness, encouraging dialogue on the role of spirituality in shaping a more harmonious global society.

The event featured a series of spiritual discourses, panel discussions, cultural presentations, and interactive sessions exploring Sri Aurobindo’s philosophical and spiritual contributions. Scholars and practitioners engaged in conversations on the relevance of his teachings in addressing contemporary global challenges and fostering a deeper understanding of conscious living and collective progress.

Widely revered as an Indian philosopher, yogi, poet, and nationalist leader, Sri Aurobindo played a significant role in India’s freedom movement while also developing the philosophy of Integral Yoga, a spiritual path aimed at the transformation and evolution of human consciousness.
