Hon’ble Minister of Culture & Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Invites Citizens to Join Har Ghar Tiranga 2026, Chairs a Press Conference

A press conference was held on 6 August 2026 at the Samvet Auditorium, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi, to outline the activities planned under the Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 campaign, which will be observed nationwide from 9 to 17 August 2026. The campaign marks five years of Har Ghar Tiranga as a nationwide people's movement and is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of our National Song, Vande Mataram. The press conference was chaired by Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Hon'ble Minister of Culture and Tourism, who underlined that Har Ghar Tiranga has, over the years, grown into a genuine people's movement that strengthens the spirit of national pride and unity among citizens across the country.

Shri Randhir Jaiswal, Additional Secretary and Official Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs; Dr Sachchidananda Joshi, Member Secretary, IGNCA; Shri Samar Nanda, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture; Shri M. Annadurai, Additional Director General (Campaign Management Cell), Press Information Bureau; and senior officials of the Government of India were present on the occasion.

Addressing the press conference, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that Har Ghar Tiranga, envisioned by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2022 under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, has evolved into a true Jan Andolan, with participation from every section of society. He said the campaign is no longer merely a government initiative but a people's movement that reflects the collective spirit of 140 crore Indians.

The Minister said that the Tiranga is far more than the National Flag. It represents India's unity, honour, civilisational continuity and collective national resolve, while symbolising the sacrifices of countless freedom fighters and brave soldiers who dedicated their lives to safeguarding the nation. He said the campaign provides every citizen an opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to nation-building and the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.

Highlighting this year's theme, Shri Shekhawat said the campaign coincides with the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. He described the National Song as the inspirational force that united Indians during the freedom struggle, adding that while the Tiranga is the visual symbol of the nation, Vande Mataram is the voice of India's national consciousness. Bringing the National Flag and the National Song together, he said, makes this year's celebrations especially meaningful.

Hon'ble Minister urged citizens to actively participate in Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 by proudly hoisting the National Flag from 9 to 17 August, joining community celebrations, participating in mass singing of Vande Mataram, and uploading their Selfie with Tiranga on the official Har Ghar Tiranga portal. This year's portal integrates the lyrics and tune of Vande Mataram, while a dedicated five-step online tutorial on vandemataram150.in has been introduced to help citizens learn the correct rendition of the National Song. Har Ghar Tiranga exhibitions across the country will also showcase the history of Vande Mataram and the evolution of the National Flag.

During the press conference, Shri Randhir Jaiswal announced SURYAPATH TIRANGA, a flagship global initiative under Har Ghar Tiranga 2026. Under the initiative, Indian Missions and Posts across the world will ceremonially hoist the National Flag in succession from east to west, following the path of the rising sun and symbolising India's growing global presence and unity.

Dr Sachchidananda Joshi outlined the nationwide observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on 14 August. Silent marches, exhibitions on the Partition, documentary screenings, theatrical performances and commemorative programmes will be organised across the country. Major events will be held in Delhi, Amritsar and Kolkata, including special exhibitions on the Partition and the history of the Tiranga, cultural performances and public outreach programmes to honour those affected by Partition and inspire future generations to uphold national unity.

The Ministry of Culture has invited citizens to participate wholeheartedly in Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 by hoisting the National Flag, singing Vande Mataram, visiting the Har Ghar Tiranga portal (harghartiranga.com), uploading a Selfie with Tiranga, and joining commemorative programmes across the country to celebrate India's freedom, honour the sacrifices of its heroes and strengthen the spirit of unity and nation-building.
