As part of the nationwide commemoration of the 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata Rajmata Ahilyabai Holkar, a captivating stage production titled ‘Punyashlok Ahilyabai’ was presented on Sunday, 26 October 2025, at Sahitya Mandir Sabhagraha, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, Thane, at 6:00 p.m. The play was presented by Pant Drama Forum, Mumbai, and Sahaj Kalatmak Foundation, Mumbai, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It formed part of the year-long celebrations that began with a grand inaugural ceremony in Bhopal on 31st May 2025, jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture and the Government of Madhya Pradesh, and graced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. he play beautifully chronicled the extraordinary journey of Ahilyabai Holkar, a ruler, reformer, and spiritual visionary, whose reign in the 18th century was marked by justice, inclusivity, and compassion. Through evocative dialogues, soulful music, and powerful performances, the production brought to life her progressive governance, her deep devotion to dharma, and her lasting contributions to India’s cultural and architectural heritage. Written by Arun Shekhar and N. K. Pant, with N. K. Pant directing and Arun Shekhar serving as Creative Director, the play’s artistic presentation deeply resonated with the audiences. The direction and sensitive portrayal of Ahilyabai’s life journey offered an inspiring reflection on her leadership and values.
The event was graced by Dr. Nivedita Shreyans, an eminent educationist and motivational speaker, as the Chief Guest. In her address, Dr. Shreyans lauded the effort to revive and reinterpret historical narratives through theatre, emphasising the power of art in connecting generations to India’s illustrious past. The performance was met with resounding applause and heartfelt appreciation from the audience, reaffirming the enduring legacy of Ahilyabai Holkar and the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to preserving and celebrating India’s cultural icons through creative expressions.
