The sacred Relics of Lord Buddha from the National Museum, New Delhi, are currently on display in Elista, the capital of the Kalmykia Republic, Russia, for an eight-day exposition organised by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), National Museum, and IGNCA. This marks the first-ever exposition of Buddha’s relics in Russia’s Buddhist-majority region, strengthening India’s spiritual and cultural bonds with the global Buddhist community.
The Holy Relics are enshrined at the Geden Sheddup Choikorling Monastery, also known as the Golden Abode of Shakyamuni Buddha, a revered centre of Mahayana Buddhism. The Indian delegation, led by Shri Keshav Prasad Maurya, Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, along with senior monks and officials, participated in the exposition. The ongoing exposition celebrates India’s shared Buddhist heritage and reaffirms its role as a custodian of global spiritual traditions.
