The Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Atal Foundation, organised a commemorative event to mark the birth centenary of former Prime Minister of India Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 21st December at Dhirubhai Ambani Auditorium, Daly College, Indore.
The commemorative event was attended by Hon’ble Vice-President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan; Hon’ble Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Mangubhai C. Patel; and Hon’ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Dr Mohan Yadav.
The programme opened with choral recitation of the national song, ‘Vande Mataram,’ and Ganesh Vandana, followed by lamp lighting by esteemed guests and Kathak dance performances. A special tribute film, titled “Atal Ji @ 100 Years,” was screened, and four distinguished personalities were felicitated with a special category award.
The Vice President, in his keynote address, observed that Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee is remembered and honoured for his exemplary actions as a statesman, administrator, parliamentarian, poet, and, above all, as a great human being. He said that Shri Atal Ji elevated public discourse with dignity and grace and demonstrated that politics can be principled and compassionate. He added that this is why Shri Vajpayee’s birth anniversary is observed as Good Governance Day.
The event closed with the National Anthem.
