A three-day commemorative programme marking the 150th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was organised from 25 to 27 January 2026 at Chak Kumar, Debra, in Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal by the Chak Kumar Association for Social Service in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The programme aimed to promote national unity, patriotism, and leadership values among youth.
The first day featured a rally with participation from around 500 individuals from various institutions, covering the route from Balichak to Debra. This was followed by a book distribution initiative, during which over 500 books on the life and contributions of Sardar Patel were distributed. The day concluded with cultural performances and a thematic presentation inspired by Vande Mataram and Viksit Bharat.
The second day coincided with Republic Day celebrations and included the hoisting of the National Flag and a parade by inmates of a Juvenile Home. Educational sessions by invited speakers were conducted, along with drawing, essay, and quiz competitions centred on the theme of Viksit Bharat.
On the third day, the programme featured a debate competition, cultural activities, and the distribution of over 1,000 books on the Constitution of India and Sardar Patel’s biography. The event concluded with a valedictory session and prize distribution ceremony, attended by the Sabhapati of Debra Panchayat Samiti and other dignitaries. The programme facilitated active participation from students and community members, contributing to greater awareness of Sardar Patel’s ideals and reinforcing values of civic responsibility and national integration.
