A three-day commemorative programme marking ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ was organised from 22 to 24 January 2026 in Karnataka by the Kushavathi Grower’s Welfare Society in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The programme was conducted across multiple locations, including Vikas First Grade College in Bagepalli, AK-Mallu Hirmath Public School in Madhugiri Taluk, and Arunodaya Aided School in Thariyur, Tumkur district, with the objective of promoting awareness about the Emergency of 1975 and its impact on democratic institutions.
The programme placed a strong emphasis on youth engagement, with a one-day seminar serving as a key component of the commemorative activities. The seminar brought together professors, scholars, law students, and teachers to discuss the historical context and implications of the Emergency, including the suppression of civil liberties, press censorship, and mass detentions. Discussions highlighted the importance of safeguarding constitutional values and democratic rights.
Additional activities included cultural programmes and the presentation of a social drama titled “Sangoli Rayanna”. Over 310 students participated in various events conducted during the three days. The programme provided a platform for educational engagement and cultural expression, reinforcing awareness of constitutional principles and the significance of democratic governance among the youth and local communities.
