Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with Lok Prayas Society, organised a three-day commemorative programme from 4 to 6 January 2026 in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, to mark the 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar.
The programme aimed to familiarise the public, particularly youth and students, with the life, administrative vision, and social contributions of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar. The commemoration focused on her role in governance, social reform, women’s empowerment, and cultural preservation.
The inaugural day commenced with a floral tribute and ceremonial lamp lighting at Bhagwati Lodge, Barhalganj, followed by a state-level seminar and a bhajan sandhya. Speakers highlighted her contributions to public welfare and good governance. The second day featured thematic seminars and cultural presentations, including dance, music, and drama depicting her life and legacy, with scholars emphasising her role as an exemplary ruler in Indian history.
On the concluding day, an essay competition on ‘Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar’s Life, Governance, and Social Contribution’ was organised at Krishna Coaching Institute, with participation from students of 10 schools. Winners were awarded prizes and certificates. The programme witnessed wide public participation and served as a platform to disseminate the enduring values and legacy of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar.
