Ministry of Culture and Sri Godavari Development Foundation Commemorate 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee

As part of the national commemoration of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the Sri Godavari Development Foundation organised a two-day cultural and educational programme on 26 and 27 November at Shanti Grand Hotel, Sabha Bhavan, Lokapur, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

The inaugural day brought together distinguished guests and community representatives. Sri Maharudraiah Swamiji of Sri Kshetra Mallikarjun Temple graced the occasion, while Rajyotsava Awardee Sri Mallikarjun Mudakavi presided over the inaugural session. 

The first day featured reflective and creative presentations, beginning with a discourse on Dr Mookerjee’s contribution to nation-building. This was followed by student performances, orchestra presentations, comedy acts, folk songs, Lambani dance, and bhajana padas. School groups and community ensembles also staged a short drama depicting key moments from Dr Mookerjee’s life.

The second day of the programme was presided over by Rajyotsava Awardee Dr Nadoja Smt. Yallavva Roadappanavar, with participation from representatives of the Karnataka Bailata Academy and other regional cultural organisations. Cultural presentations highlighted the region’s artistic traditions through folk and classical performances, vachana-based compositions, and traditional dance and music by school and youth groups.

The programme concluded with the felicitation of artists, contributors, and supporting organisations through the distribution of mementoes. The Secretary of the Foundation delivered the concluding remarks, acknowledging the collaborative efforts behind the two-day initiative and underscoring the contemporary relevance of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s contributions.
