The National Commemoration of the 200th Anniversary of Rani Channamma’s Victory at Kittur was organised by the Stage India Performing Arts Study & Research Centre, Kollam, Kerala, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The three-day programme was held from 21st to 23rd October 2025, with events conducted at Carmel Higher Secondary School and Bharat Bhawan, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
The commemoration included an Educational Outreach Programme on 21st October 2025 at Carmel Higher Secondary School. Key sessions featured the Welcome Address by President, Stage India, Kerala Dr. Thulaseedhara Kurup and the Inspirational Address by Festival Director Dr. Raja Varier. Activities comprised a curated photo exhibition, cultural presentations, an elocution competition, and a painting competition highlighting the life and legacy of Rani Channamma.
On 22nd October 2025, cultural events were held at Bharat Bhawan, beginning with exhibitions and followed by an evening cultural programme. The opening ceremony included the Welcome Address by Dr. Thulaseedhara Kurup, the programme introduction by Dr. Raja Varier, and the inauguration by Secretary of Bharat Bhawan Pramod Payyannur. The schedule featured Kannada folk songs by Mrs. Pavitra and group, along with a dramatic choreography titled “Rani Kittur Channamma,” written and directed by Jiji Kalamandir, with performances by various listed artists.
The Valedictory Session on 23rd October 2025 at Bharat Bhawan included exhibitions and an evening programme. The session featured a Special Talk by Former Director, Bhasha Institute, Thiruvananthapuram Prof. V. Karthikeyan Nair on “Rani Channamma and the Role of Women in India’s Freedom Struggle.” The event concluded with the drama “Dheeragni, Kittur Channamma’s Heroic Saga,” written by Dr. Aromal T and directed by Dr. Raja Varier, presented by artists of Stage India.
