A three-day commemorative event marking the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Harekrushna Mahtab was organised from 20 to 22 November 2025 by the Institute of Media Studies (IMS), Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The programme highlighted Dr Harekrushna Mahtab’s multifaceted contributions as a politician, statesman, journalist, and communicator, and reflected on his role as the architect of modern Odisha. The sessions over the three days were organised around themes such as his contribution to Odia journalism, his role in shaping modern Odisha, and his wider literary, political, and social contributions.
The commemorative event featured detailed addresses by senior dignitaries from the academic, media, and social sectors. Speakers highlighted Dr Mahtab’s political and administrative legacy, his role in cultural and educational advancement, social initiatives, and his significant contribution to the integration of princely states into India after Independence.
