Ministry of Culture Celebrates 12th International Day of Yoga at Purana Qila, New Delhi

The Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga by organising a special Yoga session at the historic Purana Qila in New Delhi on 21 June 2026.

Shri Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, joined the event along with senior officials of the Ministry, ASI personnel, CISF jawans, and school children. All the participants performed Yoga together, promoting the message of health, harmony, and unity.

The event was part of the nationwide celebrations of the International Day of Yoga. Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi led the national celebrations from Kolkata, West Bengal, and extended his greetings to the people of India and the world. He highlighted that 21 June, the longest day of the year, has become a symbol of the world's largest celebration of wellness and harmony.

As part of the nationwide celebrations, the Archaeological Survey of India organised Yoga sessions at 120 heritage sites across the country. Prominent venues included Mehtab Bagh and Fatehpur Sikri in Agra, the Group of Temples at Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, Rani ki Vav in Gujarat, Golconda Fort in Telangana, Bekal Fort in Kerala, Leh Palace in Leh, and Jantar Mantar in Delhi. These iconic heritage sites resonated with the spirit of Yoga, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to celebrate India's timeless tradition of wellness while promoting health, cultural heritage, and national unity.

The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated every year on 21 June since 2015. It reflects India's ancient knowledge and its message of healthy living. Through these celebrations, the Ministry of Culture reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Yoga as a valuable gift of Indian civilisation to the world.
