The Second BRICS Culture Working Group (CWG) Meeting concluded on 5 June 2026 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, under India's BRICS Presidency 2026. The two-day meeting brought together representatives of BRICS member countries to strengthen cooperation in the areas of cultural heritage protection, cultural property, creative industries, and culture-led sustainable development.
The Day 2 proceedings focused on enhancing institutional cooperation for the protection of cultural heritage and advancing collaborative approaches to safeguarding shared cultural legacies.
The two sessions of Day 2 witnessed substantive deliberations on strengthening cultural cooperation among BRICS nations. Discussions centred on institutional mechanisms for cultural heritage protection and the return of cultural property, as well as collaborative initiatives for safeguarding shared heritage through joint nominations under UNESCO's World Heritage, Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), and Memory of the World (MoW) programmes.
The successful conclusion of the 2nd BRICS Culture Working Group Meeting marked another significant step towards deepening cultural partnerships among BRICS nations and advancing collective efforts to preserve, protect, and celebrate the world's diverse cultural heritage.
