Ministry of Culture & Harijan Sevak Sangh launch National Youth Convention marking 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr Harekrushna Mahtab

The Hon’ble Union Minister of Culture & Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat inaugurated a four-day National Youth Convention (18- 21 November) as part of a series of commemorative events being held across the country to mark the 125th Birth Anniversary of Utkal Keshari, Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab. The programme was organised by Harijan Sevak Sangh in partnership with the Ministry of Culture at Gandhi Ashram, Kingsway Camp, New Delhi. 

The inaugural session opened with Sarva-Dharma Prarthana and Vande Mataram presented by students of Kasturba Balika Vidyalaya. President, Harijan Sevak Sangh, Prof. Dr. Shankar Kumar Sanyal delivered the introductory address, highlighting Dr Mahtab’s contributions to India’s freedom movement, his work in social reform, and his role in combating untouchability and advancing education.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Shekhawat reflected on Dr Mahtab’s legacy as a freedom fighter, social reformer, and an important figure in the integration of the northeastern princely states alongside Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The Minister administered a pledge towards building a developed India and underscored the responsibility of youth in national development. He also emphasised the continued relevance of Gandhian philosophy in shaping the nation’s progress.

The event was attended by Gandhian scholars, representatives of Harijan Sevak Sangh, and youth participants from across the country.
