Under the nationwide commemoration marking 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram, the Vande Mataram Exhibition was presented as a key feature at the Sanatan Rashtra Shankhnad Mahotsav, held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, from 13 to 15 December. The exhibition was supported by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, as part of its public outreach initiatives highlighting India’s freedom movement, cultural heritage, and national consciousness.
The two-day event commenced on 13 December and was graced by Minister (Culture), Government of NCT of Delhi, Shri Kapil Mishra, along with invited dignitaries and guests. The opening day witnessed substantial public participation and the presentation of multiple cultural elements, including historical exhibitions and live demonstrations of traditional martial arts.
On the second day, Hon'ble Union Minister of Culture, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, visited the venue and undertook a walkthrough of the Vande Mataram Exhibition, which was presented as a central feature of the Mahotsav under the Ministry of Culture’s commemoration initiatives. During his visit, the Minister addressed the gathering and highlighted the role of Vande Mataram in awakening national consciousness and uniting society during India’s freedom movement. He noted that the song continues to remain relevant in strengthening cultural identity and national unity.
The exhibition traced the historical journey of Vande Mataram from its composition in 1875 to its role in the freedom struggle and public life. Through curated panels, archival visuals, and documented narratives, the exhibition highlighted its influence on freedom fighters and its enduring place in India’s cultural memory. Over 1,000 participants collectively sang Vande Mataram at the venue, while large crowds visited the exhibition across both days. Live demonstrations of traditional martial arts further enhanced public engagement.
The programme concluded with significant footfall and participation from citizens, students, cultural practitioners, and visitors from Delhi and adjoining regions. The Vande Mataram Exhibition, supported under the Ministry of Culture’s commemorative framework, remained a focal point of the Mahotsav, facilitating public awareness about the historical, cultural, and national significance of the national song.
