Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi graced the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas commemorations on 15 November 2025, marking the 150th birth anniversary of Dharti Aaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda at Dediapada, Gujarat. He was accompanied by Hon'ble Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat, Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel and other dignitaries.
The programme honoured Birsa Munda’s legacy and the enduring contribution of India’s tribal communities to the nation’s cultural and freedom heritage. The Prime Minister paid homage to Bhagwan Birsa Munda and recalled the deep symbolism of the venue, where the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had been observed on 31 October as part of Bharat Parv. He noted that this day's celebration formed a meaningful culmination of that national observance. He also offered respects to Govind Guru, whose movement ignited the spirit of resistance across the tribal belt of western and central India, and referred to his visit to the shrine of Devmogra Mata earlier in the day.
Reflecting on the national significance of the date, the Prime Minister noted that in 2021 the Government of India designated 15 November as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas to formally honour the historic role of tribal communities. He underlined that the traditions of courage, self-respect and collective resolve have shaped India for centuries, with the freedom struggle providing some of the most striking examples. He recalled the sacrifices of Tilka Manjhi, Rani Gaidinliu, Sidho and Kanho, Bhairav Murmu, Buddhu Bhagat, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Tantya Bhil, Veer Narayan Singh, Telanga Khadia, Rupchand Konwar and Laxman Nayak, among many others who led uprisings and laid down their lives for India’s independence.
Marking the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the commemoration reaffirmed the ideals he embodied and the aspirations carried forward by tribal communities across the country. Artists from different cultures and tribes showcased unique cultural performances on this occasion.
