Sahitya Akademi Organizes National Seminar at Patna Sahib to Observe 350th Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji

A two-day national seminar commemorating the 350th Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was inaugurated on 3 May 2026 at Prakash Punj Auditorium, Guru Ka Bagh, Patna Sahib, Bihar. Organised by Sahitya Akademi under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in collaboration with Takhat Sri Harimandir Sahib, Patna Sahib, the event forms part of a nationwide series of programmes dedicated to honouring the legacy of the ninth Sikh Guru.

During the inaugural session, Hon’ble Governor of Bihar Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.), was graced the event as the Chief Guest and the Hon'ble Deputy Speaker of the Bihar Vidhan Parishad, Prof. Ram Bachan Roy, attended as the Guest of Honour. A special message from Hon'ble Union Minister, Ministry of Culture and Tourism Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was also shared during the programme. The session was presided over by Dr. Madhav Kaushik, President, Sahitya Akademi. The seminar, titled "Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji: Life and Teachings," aims to preserve and disseminate the Guru's message of righteousness, compassion, and courage, while fostering a meaningful connection between younger generations and these enduring values. Prof. Rawail Singh delivered the keynote address, setting the tone for the deliberations.

In his address, the Hon'ble Governor highlighted Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji's martyrdom as a timeless symbol of the defence of human rights, religious freedom, and moral courage. He described the Guru's life as a profound embodiment of sacrifice, tolerance, and an unwavering commitment to truth, underscoring its relevance in the contemporary world. Prof. Ram Bachan Roy reflected on the deep cultural and spiritual heritage of Bihar, emphasising the significance of Patna Sahib as a sacred centre of Sikh history and philosophy. Dr. Madhav Kaushik, in his welcome address, described the initiative as a vital step towards promoting awareness and scholarly engagement with the Guru's teachings.

The programme witnessed the presence of several eminent dignitaries, including Giani Baldev Singh, Jathedar of Takhat Sri Harimandir Ji, Patna Sahib, along with distinguished members of the Sikh community and noted scholars. The seminar stands as a luminous tribute to a timeless legacy, reaffirming that the Guru Sahib's message of courage, compassion, and truth continues to inspire hearts across generations.
