A one-day National Sanskrit Seminar commemorating the Birth Centenary Celebration of Acharya Shri Dinesh Chandra Joshi and National Sanskrit Seminar was organised on 15 May, 2026 at the Vachaspati Auditorium of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University, New Delhi. The programme was jointly organised by Sahitya Akademi, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in collaboration with Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University, New Delhi, Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi, and National Sanskrit University, Tirupati.
The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Shri Samar Nanda, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Addressing the gathering, Shri Samar Nanda described Acharya Shri Dinesh Chandra Joshi as a rare personality who embodied the simplicity of a saint, the serenity of a yogi, and the visionary outlook of a national sage. He observed that Acharya Joshi’s thoughts, austerities, spiritual practices, and cultural resolve would continue to inspire and guide generations to come.
Scholars, academicians, and researchers from across the country participated in the seminar. Various academic sessions deliberated upon Acharya Shri Dinesh Chandra Joshi’s invaluable contributions to Vedic culture, Puranic heritage, spiritual thought, pilgrimage traditions, Sanskrit language, and the preservation and promotion of Indian values and cultural traditions. The seminar also reaffirmed the collective resolve towards safeguarding and disseminating India’s rich knowledge traditions for future generations.
On the occasion, a commemorative postage stamp dedicated to the memory and enduring contributions of Acharya Shri Dinesh Chandra Joshi was also released.
The programme further highlighted Acharya Joshi’s significant efforts towards the promotion of Sanskrit as a living language and his historic contribution in securing the status of Sanskrit as the second official language of Uttarakhand. His lifelong commitment to manuscript preservation, Sanskrit journalism, Yoga, Ayurveda, Vastu Shastra, and Indian knowledge systems was also recalled with admiration. The organisation “Swastivachanam,” founded by him in 2010 for the preservation and propagation of Sanskrit and Sanatan cultural heritage, continues to carry forward his vision and mission.
