Awareness and Restoration Efforts Related to Repatriated Indian Antiquities

India is actively safeguarding its cultural heritage through awareness, restoration, and careful repatriation of antiquities. A Cultural Property Agreement (CPA) was signed between India and the USA in 2024 to strengthen efforts against illegal trafficking of Indian antiquities.

To create awareness, the Government has established a dedicated gallery on Confiscated and Retrieved Antiquities at Purana Qila, New Delhi, alongside regular exhibitions, workshops, and special programmes. These initiatives highlight the importance of protecting cultural property and engage the public in heritage preservation.

During the repatriation process, utmost care is taken in packing, transport, and unpacking to prevent any damage. Each antiquity undergoes authentication and preservation measures based on its condition.
