“Gyan Bharatam” Initiative Marks a Cultural Renaissance for India’s Manuscript Heritage

The Ministry of Culture has launched “Gyan Bharatam”, a landmark initiative to preserve, digitise, and disseminate India’s vast manuscript heritage. The first-ever Gyan Bharatam International Conference on Reclaiming India’s Knowledge Legacy through Manuscript Heritage was held from 11–13 September 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The event witnessed participation from over 1,100 scholars, cultural practitioners, and institutions from India and abroad, creating a collaborative platform to revive India’s knowledge traditions as a living legacy.

The conference concluded with the Delhi Declaration, a monumental collective resolve to safeguard manuscripts as cultural and intellectual treasures for Viksit Bharat 2047. Addressing the valedictory session, Union Minister for Culture, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, described the initiative as a step towards a cultural renaissance, ensuring manuscripts are preserved, digitised, and made accessible to the public. The declaration pledged to transform Gyan Bharatam into a mass movement, connecting India’s rich knowledge traditions with future generations.
