IGNCA Commemorates Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in Kolkata

The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Ministry of Culture, is commemorating Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in Kolkata with a multi-day programme of seminars, curated exhibitions, and film screenings. Organised across leading cultural venues such as Victoria Memorial Hall, Indian Museum, Science City, Metcalfe Hall, Currency Building, and the National Library, the events bring together rare photographs, archival records, and survivor testimonies. These efforts highlight the displacement, resilience, and human stories of Partition, fostering public engagement with one of the most significant chapters of India’s modern history.

The commemorations have seen enthusiastic participation from students and the general public, with exhibitions drawing large audiences for their vivid portrayal of the social and emotional dimensions of Partition. The series will conclude on 14 August 2025 with a Silent March at Science City, led by Dr. Anirban Ganguli, Director, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee Research Foundation, as Chief Guest. Through this initiative, IGNCA seeks to strengthen the culture of remembrance and ensure that the lessons of Partition remain part of the nation’s collective consciousness.
