The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Ministry of Culture, commemorated Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on 14 August 2025 at Central Park, New Delhi. The event was graced by Shri J.P. Nadda, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Shri Vijay Kumar Saxena, and Smt. Rekha Gupta, Shri Virendra Sachdeva, Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, and Shri Vivek Agarwal. The observance aligns with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who called for 14 August to be marked as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day to honour the immense suffering endured during the country’s division.
The programme featured the release of the book “As They Saw It: Partition of India 1947”, a DVD titled “The Derwals and Partition”, an evocative exhibition, a silent march, and the staging of the play “Batawara” by NSD. These initiatives revisited the human cost of Partition, drawing strong public interest and participation. IGNCA remains committed to strengthening the culture of remembrance and ensuring that the lessons of Partition endure for future generations.
