India Participates in 10th BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting in Brazil

India participated in the 10th BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting, held on 26 May 2025 in Brasilia, Brazil, reaffirming its commitment to cultural diplomacy, heritage preservation, and people-to-people exchanges among BRICS nations. The Declaration of the meeting was adopted to strengthen cooperation in arts, literature, archives, museums, galleries, puppetry, dance, and theatre. Although no formal agreements were signed, bilateral meetings were held with counterparts from Brazil, South Africa, and the UAE to explore further collaborations.

India also advocated for integrating indigenous knowledge and traditional practices into climate adaptation strategies, highlighting sustainable living methods like vernacular architecture and eco-friendly crafts. The country’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) was presented as a global model for environmentally conscious behaviour rooted in India’s cultural traditions. Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, shared this update in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, reiterating India’s role in promoting culture as a tool for sustainable development.
