National Symposium on Bhagavad Gita and Natya Shastra Concludes at IGNCA

The two-day national symposium on the “Inscription of the Bhagavad Gita and Natya Shastra in UNESCO’s Memory of the World International Register” concluded at IGNCA, New Delhi, on 31st July 2025. Organised by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), the event featured deliberations by scholars and cultural experts on the relevance of these classical Indian texts. Shri Vivek Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, attended the valedictory session as Chief Guest, highlighting the national effort required to preserve India’s manuscript heritage under the Gyan Bharatam Mission.

Prof. Ramesh Chandra Gaur shared IGNCA’s role in preparing seven new UNESCO nominations, including the Valmiki Ramayana and Thirukkural. Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary, IGNCA, praised the Ministry’s support and reaffirmed IGNCA’s commitment to global outreach and capacity-building. The symposium marked a vital step in celebrating India’s intellectual legacy and promoting wider engagement with its documentary heritage.
