The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) continues its dedicated efforts towards the preservation and conservation of centrally protected monuments, including minority heritage and pilgrimage sites across the country. Currently, there are 3,685 such monuments/sites under ASI’s jurisdiction, safeguarded as per the guidelines of the National Policy for Conservation, 2014. Restoration and development works are taken up regularly, based on requirement and availability of resources, ensuring that India’s rich cultural legacy remains accessible for future generations.
For the last five years, the Government of India has consistently allocated substantial funds to support these conservation initiatives. Expenditure details provided in Parliament highlight key works across states including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Delhi, and others. The Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, informed that ASI not only preserves and restores but also promotes heritage monuments, reinforcing India’s commitment to cultural preservation.
