Private Participation in Conservation of Heritage Sites

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) continues to protect and conserve monuments and archaeological sites of national importance while also encouraging wider stakeholder involvement. Recognising India’s vast cultural heritage, the Government has called upon state governments, local bodies, and private stakeholders to contribute to heritage preservation. To further this effort, the National Cultural Fund (NCF) has been leveraged to promote private participation, while CSR-based collaborations are being facilitated for developing visitor amenities at heritage sites.

In line with this vision, the revamped “Adopt A Heritage 2.0” programme, launched on 4th September 2023 by the Union Minister of Culture, aims to enhance visitor experience and make monuments more accessible and visitor-friendly. Under this initiative, ASI carries out conservation works and provides essential amenities such as drinking water, toilet facilities, pathways, and landscaping. The upkeep and maintenance of these heritage sites is a continuous and ongoing process, ensuring their protection for future generations.
